Splashing with Sydney

Yesterday was such a nice day here. Even though the high was in the 90s, there was no humidity, so we spent a lot of the day outside. Once Sydney got home from school, she and Barrett played in the front yard in his pool while the mommies layed in the shade and enjoyed the nice weather.

At first Barrett wasn't thrilled, but once Sydney reminded him how to splash, he had a ball attacking her.

Barrett lasted a lot longer that I thought he would, and he definitely had a good time.

When they finished in the water they joined us in the mat in the shade for a snack. We had fun playing with Barrett's hair. It's amazing what you can make it do when it is wet.

I just can't see why Doug keeps insisting he needs a haircut. What would I do to amuse myself after every bathtime?

School Days

Barrett started school yesterday, and to say he liked it would be an understatement.

We loaded up his nap mat, lunch box, and backpack, and he seemed to know something good was going to happen. He sat with his stuff by the door almost begging me to hurry. Here he is waiting on his mommy.

When we got to the church, he was so happy. Then, when we got to his class, he lunged at his teacher and went right to her. She put him down to play while I filled out a little paperwork, and he NEVER looked back. He was the first one there, and he was perfectly fine having all the toys to himself.

As I finished my paperwork, a few other kids arrived. He seemed excited with each new arrival. Since he was fine, I was happy to run and enjoy my free day!

I really got nothing impressive accomplished, but it was great to have time alone for a change.

When I went to pick him up, they said he had a great day. He was so happy! As we walked down the hall to leave, he was waving and talking to everyone. He even continued his socializing as we shopped a little on our way home. I am so relieved that he obviously loves with his new little world! (Besides, I am thrilled with some guilt free alone time!)

Party Animal

We had Barrett's birthday party on Saturday, and it was wonderful!

Even though it poured down raining when we were planning for most of the party to be outside, it all went great! (Excluding the wasted money on the tent, balloons, table coverings and the wasted time Doug and his family spent working on the yard, flower beds, and repainting and repairing the club house in the backyard.)

Barrett definitely had a perfect day. He was happy from the moment the first guest arrived until he passed out 7 hours later.

Some of our friends had to come early due to other commitments, and when Emma and Barrett saw their daddies and Uncle Ray walk outside, they wanted out too. They were quickly distracted by the balloons.

At 4:00, when the party really began, Barrett was thrilled with the arrival of lots of little kids. Since the rain hit right at 4:00, Doug's parent's living room was full of kids playing. I thought Barrett would be overwhelmed by the chaos, but he was laughing and smiling from ear to ear.

Since he was in a good mood, we decided to give him his cake before we even served dinner.

When Doug put his bib on, he was not happy. I think he was really mad that we interrupted his playing. Nana, Doug's mom, bought him the cutest bib. I took a picture before hand because I was sure my little bulldozer would ruin it with icing. (Notice the "happy" expression. He wanted Mommy to save him.)

We put him in the high chair, and he was MAD!

BUT, I was confident that once he tasted the icing, he would realize he wanted to be there. He wouldn't touch it. He just looked at his audience and begged for someone to save him.

Daddy finally gave him a little icing, and his expression completely changed. He was happily waiting for Daddy to give him more.

Doug tried putting Barrett's finger in the cake, but he didn't want that. So, we gave him a spoon. Apparently, he didn't want dirty hands.

When he would clean off the spoon, he would hand it to me or Daddy to put back in the cake. Then, he would lick it clean again. Doug tried taking the spoon away and putting his hand in the cake, but Barrett whined and reached out for the spoon.

So, we gave it back, and he ate all the cake he wanted with his spoon. He had to of been the neatest baby I have ever seen on their first birthday, and the bib I was sure Nana wasted money buying was as clean when he finished as it was when he started.

Barrett received all kinds of wonderful gifts, but there is a definite favorite.

He LOVES the Mater tow truck that our friends Steve, Christi, and Mary gave him. (Go ahead Steve, be excited that you made the blog!) Barrett has played with Mater nonstop since Saturday. He even wanted it in the bathtub with him yesterday.

I don't know that Barrett has ever been happy for as long as he was on Saturday, and even though people told me that having a big 1st birthday party would be miserable for me, I had a blast too. Barrett almost made it to see the last guests leave, but he was just too exhausted. (And, some of the family stayed REALLY late.)

Thank you to everyone who helped make my little guy's day perfect!

Happy 1st Birthday!

Barrett had fun eating his cake tonight even though he was in a BAD mood. Maybe he'll get into it more at his party on Saturday.

His favorite part of his birthday was his newest discovery...

Who needs new toys when you have toilet paper?

Still Alive

With everyone heading back to school this week, I've realized summer is over. While summer doesn't have as much meaning for me as it used to when I was teaching, I still can't believe it is gone. (Although, the 100 degree weather doesn't know it is!)

I had big plans this summer. Barrett and I were going to hang out at Cindy's pool, Barrett was going to get to see his cousin's a bunch, we wanted to go see my Aunt's lakehouse, Barrett would take his first trip to the beach, and Doug and I wanted to plan a trip to Corpus Christi to watch my cousin, Mark, play baseball with the CC Hooks. Well, summer is gone, and none of this happened.

Instead, I was parked on the couch moaning or in the bathroom on the floor, Barrett entertained himself around the house as best he could, Doug worked, and my Dad and Mary came in for a month to take care of me and Barrett. Sounds fun, huh!

The good news is I am slowly getting better. I am thirteen weeks pregnant today, and with the help of Zofran (and Tylenol for the headache the Zofran causes), I have actually left the house the past few days.

So, now that I am "better", I am BUSY. Barrett's first birthday is tomorrow, and his party is Saturday. The to do list for that is ridiculous! And if that wasn't enough, Barrett starts Mother's Day Out next week, but with that comes getting all his stuff together.

Barrett is waking up so I have to run. Here is a picture of Barrett with the treat his Daddy gave him last night. He loves his Daddy!

Happy Valentine's Day

Before you read this post, you need to read my post from Valentine's Day to fully appreciate this one.

Did you really read it? If not, seriously, read it
now!

Ok, on with the new.

You may be wondering why the Valentine's curse is concerning me in August. Why bring it up now?

Am I planning the trip I had pledged to take on the 13th?

I wish.

My real concern is that if Doug and Barrett are both sick on Valentine's again this year, it was cause some major chaos.

This next Valentine's, I am reserving the "sick" spot. Ok, not really sick, but I will be in the hospital. After all, that's where you have a baby...

Yep, we're pregnant, again!

So, I apologize for the lack of posts, but to be honest, I didn't have things to write about that didn't involve being pregnant. Especially since I have been REALLY sick for the past 6 weeks. I can count the numbers of times I left the house in July on one hand! (2 of which were doctor appointments.)

Barrett is growing like crazy, and his first birthday is around the corner. Hopefully, I'll feel better by his party. The doctor said I should feel better by the 15th of August, and his party is on the 19th...

I'll try and post more soon!
